I've tried everything over the years, from not paying attention while I read, reading really slowly and multiple times over the same paragraphs, to annotating like crazy, books on tape... I don't want to admit that maybe I'm too stupid, because I've never been defeated by a book based on difficulty and understanding before D:

I don’t know, it wasn’t too difficult for me. I think a lot of people get thrown off by the stream-of-consciousness style of writing, but I love it. From what I’ve heard, reading Portrait of an Artist before tackling Ulysses makes Ulysses a bit easier to follow/understand.
